Sunday 10 April is the 31st anniversary of the Moby Prince tragedy , which took place on the night of 10 April 1991 in front of the port of Livorno: 140 victims, among them 26 Sardinians.

“Not to forget” once again this year the Municipality of Livorno, with the patronage of the Chamber of Deputies, has prepared a series of ceremonies and initiatives that will involve the families of the victims, the representatives of the institutions and the citizens. And the city of Herculaneum already recalled those dramatic moments this afternoon with a mass and the naming of a square for the victims.

The program on Sunday in Livorno will start at 11 in the Fortezza Nuova with the deposition of a crown at the monument in memory of the victims, while at 12 in the Cathedral mass with the bishop Simone Giusti.

In the afternoon, at 2.30 pm at Palazzo Comunale, in the Council Chamber, ceremony with the greeting of the mayor Luca Salvetti to family members, representatives of institutions and delegations of participating Municipalities. At 4.30 pm the procession will start from Piazza del Municipio up to Andana degli Anelli, inside the Medici Port where at 5.30 pm there will be the laying of a cushion of roses donated by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and a laurel wreath on the tombstone which contains all the names of the victims which will then be read. The ceremony will end with the launch of 31 red roses into the sea, one for each year since the night of April 10, 1991.

IN SARDINIA - In Sardinia also the Municipality of Quartu will participate in the commemorations. The administration organized a ceremony on Sunday at 10.30 at the Roman Villa of Sant'Andrea, on the coast. The Prime Minister Rita Murgioni, together with a representation of councilors and municipal councilors, will lay some bouquets of flowers in the sea.

In Arzachena the theatrical performance "M / T Moby Prince 3.0" is scheduled for Monday 11 April (at 7 pm, Arma auditorium). The show, promoted by the Municipality and produced by the production company Grufo e Grufo and by the theater company La Nave Europa, will retrace the greatest tragedy of the Italian civilian Navy on stage.
