The center-right summit announced by Giorgia Meloni a few hours after the electoral scoppola suffered in the last administrative elections is held in these hours at Villa Grande, in the Roman residence of Silvio Berlusconi.
League secretary Matteo Salvini and the president of Fratelli d'Italia meet the leader of Forza Italia to take stock of the situation: the goal is to get out of the impasse, get the coalition back on its feet while avoiding dangerous leaps forward. A fundamental meeting, as evidenced by the fact that the former Knight has returned to the capital on purpose, which he had not done since the inauguration of the Draghi government at the beginning of the year.
After the disappointing results, with the center-right having lost in almost all the big cities, Meloni had attacked the leadership by speaking of "coordination" and hypothesized that voters were "bewildered" by a center-right divided between those who support the executive and those who stands proudly outside. But then she retraced her steps, denying having asked Lega and Forza Italia to abandon the majority.
At the same time Salvini in the last few hours has tried to recover the role of federator, getting closer to the government line. Yesterday, during the debate on the role of the Interior Ministry in the management of the clashes in Rome , the Northern League who came to ask for the resignation of the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese attacked her with heated words, rejecting her work and comparing the Trieste hydrants to the Chile, but never asking for its "head".
Also on the front of pensions from Via Bellerio transpires a certain satisfaction for having "avoided the return of the Fornero Law". An albeit partial “governist” turn that Forza Italia likes: Silvio Berlusconi's idea is that of a non-extremist center-right, not subordinate to no-vax protests, but liberal and responsible.
