Cagliari dreams of victory, after Dossena's opener, but in the second half they are caught by Monza and it ends 1-1 at the Domus.

Ranieri surprises by reintroducing the three-man defense with the Greek Hatzidiakos on the pitch in place of Jankto, the only change from the anti-Juve formation. Cagliari therefore lines up with a 3-4-2-1 mirroring Monza. The Brianza team started well and after 3' D'Ambrosio tested Scuffet with a header from a corner.

Then the rossoblù grow, led by Viola. Who in the 9th minute challenges Di Gregorio and, on the next corner, puts a ball in that Goldaniga directs towards goal. The fastest on the save is Dossena, who breaks the deadlock and scores the second goal in a row after the one in Turin.

Cagliari dominated the pitch, with Viola collecting corners. On the other side, Scuffet saves on Birindelli. In the final, free kick from the usual Viola who shouts for the goal, but the ball ends up on the outside of the net. The first half thus ends at 1-0.

In the second half, Monza raises the pace. After 7' Dany Mota almost equalised, but Scuffet and the crossbar denied him the goal. But in the 16th minute, from a corner, the new substitute Maric jumps alone into the area and makes it 1-1. Cagliari in difficulty, Ranieri first puts Jankto and Oristanio for Viola and Goldaniga, then the two strikers Pavoletti and Lapadula for Luvumbo and Petagna, but things don't change. And in the 94th minute the crossbar saved Cagliari from Valentin Carboni's close range shot. It ends 1-1, as per tradition the rossoblù restart with a draw after the break.
