9.3 million dollars , about 8.8 million euros.

It is the record sum paid by an anonymous buyer to win the number 10 jersey that Diego Armando Maradona wore in the historic match between Argentina and England of the 1986 Mexican World Cup , the one in which El Pibe de Oro scored the famous goal of the "Mano de Dios" followed by the equally famous goal scored after having practically dribbled the entire opposing team.

The auction took place at the prestigious Sotheby's , in charge of the sale. Sotheby's itself underlines that the amount paid for the Pibe shirt represents the absolute record for spending on a sports memorabilia .

The previous record was set in 2019 when a New York Yankees jersey worn by baseball phenomenon Babe Ruth sold for $ 5.6 million (about € 5.3 million).
