The centre-right, right and ultra-right parties are advancing in the main EU countries, with the socialist and social democratic parties forced to lick their wounds.
It is the first data to emerge from the polls of the 2024 European elections , in some cases with "seismic" results. As in France, where Marin Le Pen and Jordan Bardella's Rassemblement National won over 30% of the vote, "doubling" the votes taken by the European list of President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance party.
A clear result, which led Macron himself to dissolve Parliament and call early elections.
In Germany, however, the Christian Democrats of the CDU/CSU triumph - above 30%, but the striking figure is the 16% won by the ultra-right AfD, which surpasses Chancellor Scholz's Social Democrats, becoming the second party.
Again: in Austria the far-right FPO was even the most voted party.
But, in the European Chamber, the leadership of the European People's Party does not appear to be in question. The outgoing president of the EU Commission, as well as leader of the German CDU Ursula Von der Leyen , has already claimed : "We won, the EPP is even stronger and our objective will be to stop extremism."
