Henrique Cappellari, 28, was arrested for aggravated murder, suspected of killing his 31-year-old girlfriend Giulia Rigone on December 17 in Bassano (Vicenza), inside a camper where the two lived.

The young man, interrogated at length in the hours following the discovery of the body and then released, was stopped late yesterday by the carabinieri and taken to prison because according to the carabinieri and the Vicenza prosecutor's office there was a danger of escape.

The victim had deep lacerated-bruised lesions on the forehead, head, and several bruises and wounds in different parts of the body.

He defended himself by claiming that his partner had died following an accidental fall on the threshold of the camper and that other bruises had been added when the woman had fallen to the ground while he was trying to carry her into the camper with his arms.

But for the pathologist, the injuries would be incompatible with the outcome of a fall. Those to the forehead, in particular, could have been the consequence of blows by Cappellari with a heavy ring that the young man wears to the index finger of his left hand.

After being arrested, the 28-year-old was taken to the Bassano prison, pending interrogation under guarantee.
