They had presented it as a face to face between Morgan and Vittorio Sgarbi on their tastes and passions. The open confrontation that inaugurated the MAXXI summer, the program of meetings in the square of the Roman museum led by the president Alessandro Giuli, wanted by the Minister of Culture Sangiuliano, bordered on vulgarity and foul language. With Sgarbi who, under the eyes of Giuli himself, alternated between sexist anecdotes and profanity .

It has become a political case, with MAXXI employees protesting by sending a letter to Giuli and the Democratic Party asking Sangiuliano to report to Parliament on the " serious and vulgar sexist jokes uttered by Sgarbi ".

Prompted by Morgan's questions, Sgarbi at one point began to talk about his sex life and the number of women he has conquered, praising the male member. «Houellebecq says that there is a moment in life in which we know only one organ: the ca ***», Sgarbi said among other things. « The f *** is an organ of knowledge, that is, of penetration, it serves to understand . Then, after the age of 60, you discover that there are also other organs, for example the colon, the pancreas, the prostate. I didn't know what the f*** this prostate was, never met, at a certain point around 67 the prostate appears and you have to deal with this bitch *** of me *** that you've never met in your life. The ca*** goes away and the prostate arrives».

After the evening, about forty employees of Maxxi, which has a predominantly female staff, wrote to Giuli to ask him to protect the dignity of the museum, obtaining a meeting.

The Democratic Party defines the sexist jokes uttered by Sgarbi as "serious and vulgar", but "even more serious is the reaction of Alessandro Giuli, president of the Foundation, who - according to the press - in the face of the polite and reserved letter of protest from 49 employees , about forty of whom were women, thought it best to use intimidating tones during single meetings that took place over the course of a day. We ask Minister Sangiuliano to come and report to the Chamber".

" Depressing show ", attacks Alessandra Maiorino, deputy leader of the M5s group in the Senate, "what does Meloni think about it?".

" What a shame. Other than right-wing culture . Too bad, I thought Giuli was a polite person. Povera Patria», is the comment of the leader of Action Carlo Calenda.

« Sgarbi be ashamed and resign immediately. Does President Meloni have anything to say? », urges Angelo Bonelli, co-spokesman of Green Europe and deputy of Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra.

But Sgarbi doesn't think about resigning at all: "Let's not joke, I vindicate everything I have done and said, I do not accept the blackmail of some MAXXI employees". He doesn't even want to apologize for the bad words: «It was a show», he claims, « there was goliardia. So let's also censor Mozart, Lorenzo Da Ponte, Lucio Battisti, Franco Califano. Even some of their works are full of sexual references and more ».

On the attacks by the opposition: «Calenda? His politics is pornography, first kisses and hugs with Letta, then he went to Renzi from whom he was repudiated. Bonelli? Who supports the devastation of Italy with these f***ing cursed wind turbines. The Democratic Party? Fuck them too."

Minister Sangiuliano also spoke today, without ever mentioning Sgarbi : «I have always been categorically far from sexist demonstrations and profanity, which I always deem inadmissible in every context and even more so in a place of culture and by those who represent the institutions . Respect for women is a constant in my life. For me, being conservative means having a substance, a style and also an aesthetic of behavior».

The president of the museum Alessandro Giuli himself apologized for the incident : «I feel like fully and convincingly subscribing to Sangiuliano's observations: foul language and sexism cannot have the right to citizenship in public discourse and in particular in places of culture. So in retrospect there is no room for any consideration that follows the pattern we saw in the inauguration of the Estate at MAXXI». Giuli also apologized to the employees of MAXXI who had written to him to testify to their discomfort.
