Farewell to Ludovico Clemente Garavani, known simply as Valentino . The designer has died at the age of 93. Creator of the eponymous brand, he passed away at his home in Rome. The announcement was made by the Valentino Garavani Foundation and Giancarlo Giammetti, the designer's longtime companion.
The chapel of rest will be set up at PM23, in Piazza Mignanelli in Rome, on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd January, from 11am to 6pm.
The funeral will be on Friday, January 23, at 11 a.m., in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome.
Born in Voghera in 1932, he took his first steps in the world of fashion in Paris, training in the ateliers of Jean Dèsses and Guy Laroche.
Returning to Italy, he opened his tailoring workshop on Via Condotti in Rome in 1958. The turning point in his career came in 1962, at Palazzo Pitti.
"I remember him with one color: the red with which he colored fashion and an era, launching Italian ready-to-wear, " said designer Antonio Marras . "Valentino leaves a great void and a vast space that will hardly be filled. A true master of fashion and life, who made entire generations dream."
