The search for two of the four missing Firefighters is underway in Pennapiedimonte (Chieti) since yesterday evening when, at approximately 7:35 pm, the operations room of the Chieti Fire Brigade was activated for a rescue operation aimed at recovering four people missing during an excursion in the Balzolo area.

Two of the missing were rescued by 118 personnel and are not in danger of life, while the other two, who slipped into a gorge, are still being searched for by specialized teams for interventions in harsh environments.

The search continued all night and is still ongoing, although made particularly difficult by the morphological conformation of the place: it is conducted by specialized personnel from the fire brigade and the Alpine and Speleological Rescue, and by additional units from the neighboring regions.

The four were hiking in the Balzolo area, in the municipality of Pennapiedimonte.

The Carabinieri, the police and the Guardia di Finanza are present in the area. Since yesterday evening, by order of the Prefect of Chieti, Gaetano Cupello, the Rescue Coordination Center has been activated, in which representatives of the police force, the Chieti fire brigade, 118, the Regional Civil Protection Agency, as well as the military of the Chieti Document Office and the 9th Alpine Regiment of L'Aquila participated.
