When he heard the news of the attack on the two armored vans on the Variante Aurelia at the exit of the southern tunnel of San Vincenzo, and of that particular modus operandi, almost making it a trademark for Sardinian crime, Giancarlo Dionisi, prefect of Livorno since July, but previously a government representative in Nuoro for 18 months, immediately thought of his time in Barbagia.

The investigations are open and complex, but the video images and the speech of some of the members of the commando seem to indicate a precise trail that leads to the Island. "Yes," says Dionisi, "I must say that my thoughts immediately went to my time in Sardinia, when immediately after the attack on the armored van on state road 131, in Siligo, we set up a task force and then created a very important protocol with the security companies, which at least in the period in which I was there bore fruit. I believe that also in Livorno," announces the prefect, "I will propose the same thing, because I believe that communication can be decisive in preparing each transport. The objective," he explains, "is to strengthen cooperation and above all improve communication between all the subjects involved, so that each transport of valuables is adequately planned, monitored and accompanied by the necessary security measures."

"The investigations are of course ongoing and are entrusted, as is right, to the police and the judiciary, in which I have the utmost confidence. It is important to underline", concludes Dionisi, "that such acts are not isolated: often behind these crimes there are complex strategies, potentially linked to organized criminal structures, including mafia-type ones, with ramifications that go beyond provincial and regional borders".
