The indignation and anger of the relatives of the people who died in the fire at the San Giovanni Evangelista hospital in Tivoli last Friday is rising. According to some of them, the damage was caused not only by the smoke, but also by the short circuit caused by the flames , which could have caused equipment that was essential for the survival of some patients to fail.

Barbara Ilari, daughter of Giuseppina Virginia Facca, who died during the fire, is also convinced of this : «In the mortuary I was able to recognize the body of my mother, who was 84 years old and hospitalized and intubated in hospital: her life was linked to that car, that's what the doctors had always told me."

An autopsy will have to be carried out on the body of the 84-year-old by Wednesday, given that in the next few hours the Tivoli Prosecutor's Office will appoint the coroner and a toxicologist.

«If there was a blackout during the fire and the machinery didn't work, it's very possible that my mother died from this - continues Barbara Ilari -. So I wonder what the use of a toxicologist for the autopsy is, given that the causes of death may not only be linked to smoking but also to other elements like this. The truth will not emerge."

It therefore remains to be understood whether the oxygen tanks were enough and how the patients were taken away: «I imagine that during the chaos of the rescue - Barbara reflects - a choice was made to prioritize the patients. They told me they tried to resuscitate my mother, but I remain sceptical."

Andrea Biddau, president of the local civil protection emergency radio volunteer association of Tivoli: " There was such a well-structured system between us, firefighters, doctors and nurses that no one was left as second choice ."
