Valentina Palli is the mayor of Russi, in the province of Ravenna, a town of just over 12 thousand inhabitants. And one of these, a ninety-year-old, began to bombard her with phone calls with insults shortly after her election. Renato, this is his name, complained badly because the traffic in front of his house did not allow him to rest. Then he began to call everyone a bit: not only the Municipality but also the Province, insulting any employee who answered.

In practice, this scene was repeated every day. Until the mayor decided to make a change: “One sunny day, without warning him, I showed up at his house. I was there for an hour, a time of chatting, of the history of his life and of his family. Of human closeness. We also talked a little about the road but in fact in our time together that was a completely residual theme - writes Valentina Palli on Facebook -. Since that day, his phone calls have changed . The street noise must have stopped because he never mentioned it again ”.

The elderly man was later hospitalized after testing positive for Covid: "Since he is alone - continues the mayor -, he called us and we did the same with him, calling him on the phone and asking the doctors how he was, to to make sure that he did not feel alone (we were forbidden to go to the hospital ...) and so Renato went home. As he says: 'At my age I also came back!' and he was moved on the phone when I called him to welcome him back. Now, every now and then, I fix (alone and without notifying him) an appointment in the diary. I bring him a croissant (which he does not eat) and pass him by to say hello. The road must have become very quiet in the meantime because we have never talked about it again ”.
