The rescue of Ottavia Piana , the injured speleologist who remained trapped (for the second time in a few months) in the Abisso Bueno Fonteno cave, in the province of Bergamo, is estimated to take another 36-48 hours.
At 8 this morning – Tuesday – the Alpine and Speleological Rescue workers who are bringing the woman back to the surface on a stretcher have finished the route in the secondary branch of the cave – which has not been explored – and are now tackling the “known part” of the route.
The movement times are marked by an hour and a half of transport and an hour of break to provide medical assistance to the injured person.
Up to this point, 126 Alpine and Speleological Rescue technicians have been involved, forming 5 rescue teams : some dedicated to transporting the stretcher, others to anticipate its passage by clearing sections that could later prove problematic - also with the use of small explosive charges.
The sixth team is scheduled to arrive this evening, the seventh tomorrow. The technicians at work come from Lombardy, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Piedmont, Trentino-Alto Adige, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto, but additional personnel are also expected to arrive from Sardinia.
