"A wave of love that helps me move forward." Eugenia Roccella breaks her silence as the search continues unabated for her husband Luigi Cavallari, missing for a week in the waters of Lake Vico, in the province of Viterbo.
"I'm trying to respond to each one of you personally, and I know you'll understand if it takes me a while. But in the meantime, I'd also like to thank, through this page, everyone who has offered their support in various ways during these difficult days. An outpouring of affection that, in such a tragic and heartbreaking moment for me, moves me and helps me move forward . Thank you," wrote the Minister for Family Affairs in a post published on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the search for the 84-year-old continues. Drones, video surveillance camera footage, underwater robots, and teams of divers are scanning the lakebed day and night, but so far without success.
The couple had just rented a small boat when Cavallari dived into the water to cool off. After briefly surfacing, he reportedly said he wasn't feeling well. The boat, however, wasn't anchored and couldn't get close. Among the theories being considered is that he may have taken ill due to the temperature difference between the high temperatures of recent days and the lake water.
Sophisticated remotely operated ROVs equipped with cameras and sonar are also deployed on site, as well as an underwater drone used to explore the most difficult areas. Lake Vico presents particularly challenging conditions, with visibility rapidly decreasing to near zero.
