A supply of pink Ffp2 masks is taking place in numerous Italian police stations, including Pavia, Varese, Ferrara, Syracuse and Venice. This was reported by the Sap union calling them "indecent".

Sap is asking for "immediate action to ensure that colleagues work with masks of a different color" from pink, which "is eccentric compared to the uniform and risks damaging the image of the institution". The relevance "of the functions performed by the State Police - he underlines - requires the Administration to preserve the dignity of its operators ".

And the controversy breaks out, with the Silp-CGIL which does not absolutely agree with its colleagues. "Perhaps it would be appropriate to deal with more important things, which the Police Forces, and the State Police in particular, would need (adequate salaries, personnel, means, etc.) to better address the various security issues that they come from civil society, "says Michele Tarlao of the national workplace safety department of the police union Silp CGIL.

For the union, the protest against color "is strongly linked to stereotypes, cultural representations, closed and macho habits and mentalities that are strong even in our country".

POLITICS - Brothers of Italy don't like pink either. "I find right the protest of the police unions who have sided against the decision of the commissioner for the management of the Covid emergency to assign pink masks to the agents on duty. It is certainly not a color problem but it is also necessary that the individual protection, which are now mandatory, are adequate and in keeping with the uniform. Such an important institution deserves respect ", declares the group leader in the Chamber Francesco Lollobrigida.

"Fratelli d'Italia finds unacceptable and disrespectful the supplies of pink Ffp2 masks sent to the women and men of the police forces of various Italian provinces. Just as the use of the uniform is regulated and must meet the criteria of decorum , sobriety, the same goes for the accessories that are worn during the service. We would like to understand how it was possible to send these disrespectful supplies to the Institution especially in a historical context in which there are often prejudices towards our women and our men in uniform ", reads a note by Emanuele Prisco, a deputy who announced a question about the government.
