Little Nicole had been left at home alone. This is the news that emerges from the investigations on the five-year-old girl who disappeared Saturday evening and was found the next morning in Sant'Angelo Limosano, in the province of Campobasso.

The young mother questioned by the investigators admitted that she had left the house in the countryside for a few minutes, locking the front door. That's why Nicole went out the window.

The mother is under investigation with the hypothesis of the crime of abandonment of a minor.

But the investigation goes on in several directions and we work tirelessly to shed light on aspects of the story that are still unclear. Could a five-year-old girl go all that way alone at night? Could he withstand sub-zero temperatures wearing a light enough jacket? Could that same pink jacket remain as clean as it was when the baby was found?

These are just some of the questions that the police are asking, who also aim to understand the dynamics between relatives, in particular the relationships between the families of the child's parents.

The little girl, heard twice in a protected audition, confirmed her mother's version, that of a voluntary escape after a reprimand.

But the hypothesis that the little girl did not do everything by herself also remains standing. Someone might have pulled her out the window and then carried her away. In the morning, that same person or an accomplice may have had her found again. But who could - investigators ask - have an interest in making such a gesture and why? The first lead would lead to a relative who would have liked to inflict some sort of punishment on the mother, but these are only hypotheses for now.

For this reason, all family members have been repeatedly heard by investigators: parents, grandparents and even acquaintances of the family. The messages that some of Nicole's relatives exchanged during those hours are also being examined. Some of these would have been deleted from Whatsapp chats, but then recovered by investigators.
