Nicola Gratteri, 65, is the new prosecutor of Naples.

The head of the Catanzaro prosecutors was appointed by the CSM by majority to lead the largest prosecutor's office in Italy. A role discovered almost a year and a half ago, since Giovanni Melillo left him to take on the role of head of the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate.

Gratteri obtained 19 votes against the five that went to the Bologna prosecutor Giuseppe Amato and the eight to the deputy prosecutor of Naples Rosa Volpe, "regent" of the Neapolitan prosecutor's office for a year.

For the majority who supported him , the prevalence over the other candidates of the broad and profound experience gained by Gratteri in combating the phenomena of organized crime, in its national and transnational dimension, was decisive, which with hundreds of letters rogatory led him to establish relationships with proxies from all over the world.

A commitment that also led to the capture of around 140 fugitives, some of whom were included in the list of the 30 most dangerous.
