According to the European Medicines Agency (Ema), the monkeypox virus is not a health emergency.

“It has significant differences with Covid - explains Marco Cavaleri, head of the vaccine strategy -, starting from the fact that it is not easily transmitted between humans; an increase in cases is likely but there is currently no health emergency ".

There is therefore no alarm for public health "and the focus should remain on the identification, monitoring and management of new cases", concluded Cavaleri.

For now in Italy, with data released by the Undersecretary of Health, Pierpaolo Sileri, there are 20 confirmed cases, of which 19 with a history of travel to areas where chains of contagion have been identified.
