An investigation into alleged inflated purchases of masks for the Arma barracks in Turin leads to the arrest of two carabinieri and two other people.
The investigations, conducted by the Arma and coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of the Piedmontese capital, led to a total of 9 precautionary measures against as many under investigation for various reasons for aggravated corruption, material falsehood committed by public officials, ideological falsehood committed by private individuals in public deed, unauthorized access to an electronic information system and omission of official documents.
The two soldiers involved have been suspended.
According to the indictment, in March 2020, when the pandemic broke out, the purchase of 87 thousand FFP2 masks would have been ordered, double what was actually needed. And for the purchase, an officer of the Arma would have turned to an entrepreneur "friend" of her husband, who would have asked 140 thousand euros for this supply.
