“I managed to escape after two days by escaping from a broken window. I arrived in Libya in the trunk of a car and here one of the men who bought me repented and took me to the beach to get on a boat bound for Italy ".

This is how Joy Ehikioya, 23 years old of Nigerian origin, a victim of unprecedented violence by unscrupulous men, who at home had also raped her only and only for her being albino, tells of her desperate escape. A connotation that in Nigeria means social stigma, abuse, persecution. A connotation that in 2016 cost her kidnapping and rape, as part of an inhuman "propitiatory rite".

But from that nightmare Joy, among a thousand adventures and dangers, managed to escape, at the cost of her life. Once in our country, the young woman settled in Trento, as part of a reception project for refugees and asylum seekers.

And, precisely in Trento, Joy has now reached an important milestone: she graduated in Law, precisely in Comparative European and International Legal Studies. The ransom after the horror. The unique testimony of an unrivaled willpower and courage.

She writes it herself, eloquently, on her blog: “This is a story of violence, of ancestral superstitions, and more of violence. It is also a story of involuntary emigration, something close to deportation. Finally, it is the story of the reacquisition of one's real name: claimed, relearned ”.
