Insulted, kicked, even hit with spit. The reason? He is Jewish.

A few days before the Day of Remembrance, a 12-year-old boy is attacked by two 15-year-olds in a park in Campiglia Marittima, in the province of Livorno, in what is a clear anti-Semitic attack.

The news was reported by the mayor Alberta Ticciati: "An incredible situation, like goosebumps, it seems to have plunged back into the darkest times in the history of our country".

The episode happened on Sunday around 6.30 pm: the 12-year-old, who was with other peers in the public park, for no reason would first have been invited to keep quiet by the two girls and then addressed with anti-Semitic phrases such as "you have to burn in the ovens". So also physical aggression. The 12-year-old, returning home, told everything to his father who has decided to file a complaint.

“The municipal administration does not intend to ignore or trivialize what happened which is of unprecedented gravity - the words of Ticciati -. We invited the family to take their steps. I will discuss between today and tomorrow with the police and the school and we will do everything possible so that it is not archived and trivialized. The fact that such a thing happens in a reality like ours in 2022 is of a maximum gravity that must be investigated, deepened, understood, and strongly stigmatized ".

THE COMPLAINT - For the president of the Jewish community of Livorno Vittorio Mosseri "this story does not concern only Jews but everyone: it is inexplicable how, in 2022, such feelings of racism and anti-Semitism still find fertile ground. An episode so shocking, heavy, inexplicable. . What is behind the attack by two 15-year-olds? I hope there are consequences, I hope this does not end with two slaps on the back because it would be anti-educational. Let's try to understand what is in their heads girls".

"Given the proximity to Memorial Day, I don't think it's a coincidence," he adds.

The consul of Israel Marco Carrai for Tuscany says in a "disconcerted" note: "Anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism are the lowest form of incivility and barbarism to be condemned without ifs and buts". Hence the "affectionate hug to the boy and his parents ".
