The students of a school in Ravenna , the Nervi Severini artistic high school, will soon be able to choose the name and gender of choice on the class register , if they believe they do not recognize themselves in their personal gender and first name.

The proposal, which paves the way for several other schools and universities, is still being examined by the school board but is strongly supported by the manager.

Specifically, it provides for a "career alias": the institute will indicate on all internal documents of unofficial value , starting from the electronic register, but also on the e-mail address and on the various school directories, the name and gender chosen by the student, even if different from that shown on the identity card . A choice made in respect of some students of the school who have expressed this need.

"This is an agreement between school, student and family (in the case of a minor student), to promote the psychological well-being of the person who, living in a situation of gender variance - explains the school - can see their own experience recognized through the law to be appointed, in schools, with the name of election ".

"Our action starts from a couple of requests received and which it seems absolutely correct to accept", explains the principal Gianluca Dradi, who in 2019 had made himself known for not wanting to delete the words "the principal is gay" which appeared on a wall of the plexus: that false attribution was the message, it was not offensive.

"Already now the teachers were calling the children by their chosen name, but we want this not to be a concession but a right ", underlines the head teacher. The high school, he continues, is also "equipping itself to identify dedicated toilets and changing rooms so that everyone can feel at ease". Within the institute "we also have people who practice cross-dressing with the utmost general respect - adds the principal -. We want to continue along the path of inclusion ".

"When an institution listens to young voices, great results are achieved and we are all a little better because we have reached another step towards true collective well-being", comments Ciro Di Maio, president of Arcigay Ravenna.
