Eighty percent of citizens report at least a moderate impact on their financial situation, 44% feel a significant impact on travel, and 38% on family finances (compared to 24% in February, before the war). Furthermore, confidence in the US as a reliable partner has plummeted, from 27% in February to 14% today. And 49% believe the EU is not responding adequately to Trump's trade policies.

These are the main findings from a new survey by Altroconsumo on Italians' perceptions of the consequences of international tensions on their lives.

The survey was conducted on a representative sample of the Italian population (18-74 years old) and compares the data with the February survey conducted together with Euroconsumers, before the outbreak of the conflict.

"The repercussions of the geopolitical situation have worsened in virtually every area compared to the same survey conducted in February," Altrocunsumo explains, "when the war hadn't yet broken out but the international landscape was already bleak, with other conflicts, tariffs, and more. The greatest decline was seen in family finances: while in February the impact of global tensions on their economic well-being was high or very high for 24% of Italians, in April—with the war underway—this figure rose to a staggering 38%. As for overall quality of life, the percentage of Italians most impacted rose from 25% to 33%, and for mental health from 15% to 23%.
