"There is a need for caution on the pandemic. The ECDC says that the pandemic is still ongoing even if in
Europe is much better. The many cases of Omicron have not turned into hospitalizations and this is thanks to the vaccination campaign: we are at 91% of first doses among the over 12. Today we are bending the curve and without having to pay a high price for closures ". This is the point of the situation on the Covid-19 epidemic in Italy made by the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza in front of the cameras of "Half an hour more", on Rai 3.
Speranza also spoke of the gradual easing of restrictions, explaining however that protective measures should not be set aside entirely. Starting with the masks: "If I am outside in a park or walk down the street without risk, I remove the mask but the norm I signed says that the mask must be kept with you and if there are gatherings it must be worn", explained the minister. Adding: "The mask has been a fundamental tool in recent months and still is: they should always be worn indoors and outdoors they should be worn as soon as there is an element of risk, also for common sense".
Speranza also took stock of the vaccination campaign: "91% of people over 12 years old - he said - have been vaccinated and this has allowed us not to have incredible pressure on hospitals. Even if only 9% are not vaccinated," that 9% produces the majority of cases in hospitals and intensive care. It must be said that the reopening that we are allowing is thanks to the vaccine ".
Finally, the situation in hospitals, also in consideration of future emergencies: “Today the country is stronger and the scientific community has learned about the virus better. Before Covid they had 5 thousand places in intensive and today they have doubled to 9500 places. The specialization grants for doctors were 6 thousand a year and we reached 17,400 and research and the IRCCs were strengthened. We have taken a big step forward on resources and we have 124 billion for the national health fund. We can therefore close the cutting season and open the investment season ".
