Twenty-two-year-old Alex Cotoia, tried on charges of having stabbed his father to death in 2020 to defend his mother during yet another family fight, was acquitted by the Court of Assizes of Appeal in Turin.

The trial was repeated by decision of the Court of Cassation, which had annulled with referral a previous sentence of 6 years and two months .

During his legal case, the young man (who after the events decided to abandon his father's surname Pompa ) was always defended by his mother Maria, with these words: "If he hadn't intervened, I could have been yet another victim of femicide," the woman had said . His brother Loris had also confirmed, criticizing the first conviction: "He saved our lives, if we don't want women to continue dying , sentences of this type are unacceptable."
