Fear for Alex Zanardi , the former motoring champion who for two years has been forced to live attached to machinery due to a dramatic accident that occurred during a handbike race in the Sienese area.

A fire broke out in his villa in Noventa Padovana, in the province of Padua.

According to initial information, the photovoltaic system would have caught fire: the immediate intervention of the Fire Brigade limited the fire and prevented the flames from spreading to the house, a structure on two levels.

At the moment, according to what is learned, any damage to the machinery assisting the former champion is being assessed. As a precaution, Zanardi was transferred to a medical center in Vicenza.

After the accident of 19 June 2020, Alex, for years a symbol in sport for the handicapped, managing to win four gold medals at the London Games in 2012 and Rio in 2016, has embarked on a long rehabilitation path .
