Storm on the municipal council of Palermo.

The mayor of the Sicilian capital Leoluca Orlando and 23 former councilors, managers and municipal area heads are under investigation for falsification in the municipal budgets: the accusation contested by the Palermo prosecutor is "false material committed by a public official in a public act".

According to Repubblica, the investigations of the economic and financial police unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Palermo have ascertained numerous irregularities in the financial statements of four years, from 2016 to 2019.

"The public officials - the magistrates write in the provision - signed and sent to the General Accounting Office some overestimated revenue forecast forms (taking into account the data - known to them - of the actual assessments of revenue in previous years) thus misleading the Palermo city council on the truth of the act, determining it to adopt the resolution with which the budget was approved ".

One chapter of the accusations concerns the budgets, another the management reports.

In Orlando, a directive of 18 June 2018 is contested "for having in a public deed authentic up to a complaint of false (...) exposed false data and in particular reported credits to be recognized / settled by the Municipality towards lower investee companies compared to the real ones ". The reference is to the debts of the Municipality towards Amat (the company that manages public transport in the city ed): they would have been "falsely quantified in only 197 thousand euros, for the year 2016, against the company's credits without expenditure of 8 million 890 thousand euros ".
