A 40-year-old man, Elia Lovecchio, died after falling from a height of about 4 meters in a gym in Putignano (Bari) while he was training in climbing.

The accident occurred last January and the man, after two days of hospitalization in the Bari hospital, died. The family gave consent for the donation of his organs.

The Bari prosecutor's office has opened a file to clarify the dynamics and causes of the accident, the gym has been seized. According to what has emerged so far, the victim originally from Santeramo in Colle, was engaged in a climb when he lost his balance and then fell into the void.

Rescued by 118 personnel, he was transported to the Policlinico where he was hospitalized in very serious conditions and then ended up in a coma.

"I am truly shocked and saddened by this terrible news," said the mayor of Santeramo in Colle, Vincenzo Cassone. "We have lost a young man with a noble spirit, socially committed and very attached to Santeramo. We are waiting to learn more details about this tragic episode. On behalf of myself and the entire city, I would like to express my condolences to Elio's family, his friends and all those who loved him."
