Paolo Fiscato did not make it. The boy, 12 , died last night after struggling for nine days in an intensive care bed at the Novara hospital.

On 20 August, during a trip with his parents in Val Formazza, in Piedmont, he fell off a cliff . He had fallen into the void in Case Francoli, at 1,600 meters above sea level, after having put a foot in the wrong.

It was hoped for a different ending, especially at the beginning. Paolo replied, he was vigilant , when the civilian mountain rescue teams from the ground and the helicopter rescue team arrived at the accident site.

The men in the air ambulance had dropped into the void and stabilized and harnessed him on a stretcher, and then towed him to the helicopter: from there they had transported him to the Maggiore hospital in Novara, where the 12-year-old had arrived with severe head injuries and chest and had been admitted to intensive care .

His parents watched over him for eight nights , hoping for a recovery that never happened. Last night the sad ending, now they are overwhelmed by pain, while dozens of messages of closeness and remembrance arrive on Facebook: "Your smile will always be in our hearts".
