“The time has come to question the very idea of strength and to explore other forms of power, ones that are not based on oppression and coercion.” This is the invitation of Elena Cecchettin, activist and sister of Giulia, murdered on 11 November 2023 by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, to the Turin Book Fair where she spoke on 12 May with her ten-minute monologue dedicated to resistance and to self-determination.

On the black t-shirt wearing the words 'Stop the genocide', her hair tied in braids, Elena Cecchettin is emotional as she reads her monologue. Father Gino Cecchettin was in the front row listening to her, at the Salone with 'Cara Giulia', the book written with Marco Franzoso.

At a certain point a protester bursts onto the scene and starts screaming, with a rosary in her hand: «Go back Satan. Patriarchy is an insult compared to you. The beasts have retained their maternal instinct, but you kill your children. Having been driven away, the protester then returns: «Hands off the children. They don't kill each other."

Once the situation has been brought back to calm, the meeting continues: «I think the woman's whole body is under attack. War within the war. When it comes to conquering territories, rape is considered a weapon of war. A way to demonstrate that we are more powerful" says Elena.
