In 2021 there was a "significant increase" in cases of sexual exploitation of minors and solicitation online. This is one of the figures that emerge from the final balance sheet of the Postal and Communications Police through the National Center for the fight against online child pornography, Cncpo, which coordinated 5,515 investigations (+ 70% compared to the previous year), over 1,400 searches (+ 87 %), carried out 137 arrests (+ 98%) and reported 1,400 people (+ 17% compared to 2020).

A particular surge is that concerning crimes against the person committed through the network: the cases of sextortion, that is of extortion with a sexual background, were 984, with an increase of 54% compared to 2020; those of revenge porn 225 (+ 78%) and those of stalking 176 (+ 23%). Overall, over 1,400 people were reported for crimes against the person committed on the web.

There are also 101 complaints concerning subjects belonging to the "complex galaxy of the No vax and No Green pass movements". Over 300 channels on messaging platforms and controlled web spaces. Police operations - with complaints, searches and closure of Telegram channels - were coordinated in particular by the prosecutors of Milan, Turin, Genoa and Rome.
