Chiara Petrolini has been sentenced to 24 years and three months . The Parma Assize Court, presided over by Judge Alessandro Conti, decided this after just over three hours of deliberation in the trial of the 22-year-old from Traversetolo accused of the murders of the two newborns born on May 12, 2023, and August 7, 2024, and then buried in her home garden .
The Court acquitted the victim of the murder of the first child, but not of the concealment charge . It also reclassified one of the two corpse suppressions, that of the second child, as the less serious crime of concealment.
The two newborns died shortly after birth, following undisclosed pregnancies . They were then buried in the garden of the home where the young woman is under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. "I wanted to keep them close to me," said the 22-year-old, who watched impassively as the sentence was read.
At the hearing on March 13, the Prosecutor's Office had requested a 26-year sentence.
The first newborn was found by chance by the family dog while digging a hole on August 9, 2024. Chiara Petrolini had given birth to that baby just two days earlier and had flown to New York with her family a few hours later. A month later, the Carabinieri found the remains of the other newborn, born in 2023, nearby.
Samuele Granelli, the unwitting father of the two newborns, was always present in the courtroom . Initially suspected of complicity, like Chiara's parents, all three were quickly cleared. Victims of the university student's lies.
