A bridge on the Sila-Mare road in Calabria has collapsed. The flood of the Trionto river, caused by the abundant rains that have fallen in the last few hours, would have caused one of the pylons to collapse.

The collapse occurred in the stretch of road that crosses the municipality of Longobucco (Cosenza).

The video posted on social media has gone viral, also coming to the attention of the Calabrian governor Roberto Occhiuto: "Incredible images, I have just concluded a meeting that I called urgently," he said.

«The bridge – explained the president of the Region – was built only nine years ago by the municipalities of the Destra Crati-Sila Greek mountain community. And it collapses like this. These are images that recall the Genoa bridge, the Morandi bridge, which has claimed many victims. And do you know why there were no casualties? Because Anas, in a foresighted way, closed this stretch of road, and therefore prevented construction site vehicles and cars from passing. Otherwise today we would be commenting on a tragedy. I called the managing director of Anas because I am pleased with this choice».

«I demand – concludes Occhiuto – that all the responsibilities, which exist, are ascertained. Because in 2023 a bridge built only nine years ago cannot fall like this».
