A robbery leads to a brutal beating, with the homeowner now hospitalized with fractures to his jaw, nasal septum and side.

It happened in the province of Livorno and the victim of the attack is the former rally driver of the Lancia Martini team Andrea Aghini , one of the most followed in the 80s and 90s when he competed in the world championship with the official Turin team and who also won a world champion Sanremo Rally in 1992.

His home was attacked by four hooded bandits, who Aghini found in the garden and who attacked him, beating him violently to have the safe opened.

The criminals were put to flight by some people, who were in a nearby driving school, who rushed to the scene attracted by the screams of the former driver.

At that point the robbers fled away, while Aghini was rescued by an ambulance and taken to hospital.

As for the loot, it has yet to be quantified: the criminals would have managed to take away watches and other valuables.

«At the moment I wasn't even afraid – Aghini told Tirreno – I was thinking more than anything else about defending myself and defending the house. I acted instinctively, I knocked one out and then I also chased him. Then they jumped on me and I didn't see anything anymore."
