"I'd like to meet poor Yara's parents. Looking into my eyes, they'd understand I'm not the murderer." Massimo Bossetti said this on Porta a Porta, pressed by Bruno Vespa's questions.
The bricklayer from Mapello was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Yara Gambirasio, the thirteen-year-old girl who disappeared from Brembate di Sopra and was found murdered on February 26, 2011, in Chignolo d'Isola, in the Bergamo area.
During the interview, Bossetti insistently requested a repeat DNA test. "I question this scientific finding because I wasn't given the opportunity to repeat it. They tell me the test is unrepeatable."
After giving a confusing explanation of why he had turned off his cell phone from 5:45 PM on the day of the murder until the following morning ("I was at home and didn't have an adapter"), Bossetti then assured that he had never searched for porn videos of thirteen-year-olds on porn sites: "My consultants explained to me that certain search strings are automatically generated by the computer."
Despite being eligible for permits, the former bricklayer has never left prison. "Are you afraid of contact with people?" Vespa asked. "No, I'm not afraid. I refuse everything because I want to leave with my head held high, without having to accept a permit or a benefit. I don't accept having to leave for something that's been given to me."
Bossetti finally admitted that his wife, Marita Comi, doesn't visit him in prison: "My wife doesn't come to see me anymore because there have been misunderstandings between us. Aside from the discovery, as you all know, of the infidelity. I prefer a face-to-face discussion outside of the prison context."
Bossetti now has a four-hour contract as a metalworker in Bollate prison ("Work is important for an inmate, also to keep him away from bad thoughts") and reiterated that his children visit him regularly in prison: "They support me courageously. My heart is nourished by their strength. But no one can give me back all the years I've lost; I can't imagine a future for myself."
