Beppe Grillo was acquitted at the trial in Livorno which saw him accused of private violence and injuries against the journalist Francesco Selvi.

As explained by Selvi's lawyer, Gian Claudio Emeri, the judge ascertained the existence of the facts but acquitted Grillo on the basis of article 131 bis of the Code of Criminal Procedure which excludes punishment due to the particular tenuousness of the fact.

The facts date back to 2020, on the beach of Marina di Bibbona: Selvi was trying to interview Grillo for the TV show "Diritto e Rovescio", when the comedian snatched his mobile phone from his hand and pushed him, causing a sprained knee.

In the same hearing, the judge sentenced the comedian to pay damages to the reporter to be quantified separately and to a provisional amount of 1,000 euros in his favor , in addition to the reimbursement of 3,500 for the costs of establishing a civil party. Grillo was also sentenced to compensation of 500 euros each to Fnsi and the Order of Journalists, who were civil parties.
