The arrests were made by the Carabinieri del Ros as part of the investigation coordinated by the Palermo prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia and the deputy Paolo Guido.

The car, bought personally by the boss a year ago in a Palermo dealership , was in fact registered in the name of Bonafede's mother, and the Fiat 500 given in exchange for the purchase of the Giulietta was registered to the same woman - an 87-year-old disabled person.

«Bonafede - explains the investigating judge Alfredo Montalto accepting the request for the arrest of the prosecutor of the Dda Piero Padova - has a family background compatible with the role of participant in the mafia association (and which, at the same time, explains why Messina Denaro Matteo been able to address him), since he is the nephew (son of his brother) of the well-known Bonafede Leonardo, former 'regent' of the mafia 'family' of Campobello di Mazara who protected, at least in recent years, the fugitive of the same Messina Denaro Matteo, allowing him to fully play the role of undisputed head of the Cosa nostra coterie in the province of Trapani".

In essence, concludes the investigating judge, " we are in the presence, in essence, of a probably confidential affiliation of Bonafede by the will of Messina Denaro "

Today the owner of the dealership was heard by the investigators. The dealer, having seen the photos of the mafia boss in the media and recognized the buyer's face, confirmed that the car was personally purchased by the godfather . But not in cash, at least that's what he later told Rai journalists: "The car was purchased with traced methods as required by law."
