The Milan Court of Appeal sentenced Domenico Spellecchia, former head of Gynecology at the Chiavenna hospital, in the province of Sondrio, to 6 years of imprisonment, accused of sexual violence against 18 of his patients.

As reported today by the local press, the judges have reformed the sentence for the 61-year-old doctor, who in June 2018 was acquitted in the Court of Sondrio. The new conviction, on the other hand, proved the accusation right.

The Milanese judges - Valeria De Risi as president, alongside Chiara Maria Giuseppina Nobili and Alessandra Simion - have decided to partially renew the investigation, to listen to some witnesses again and ask for new advice on the videos of the visits already brought to the courtroom. Sondrio. The doctor was sentenced to 6 years (the prosecution had asked for 8), in addition to the perpetual ban from any office relating to protection, curatorship and support administration; perpetual ban from public office; the legal ban during the expiation of the sentence; and suspension from exercising the medical profession.

Domenico Spellecchia was arrested on 3 December 2014 at the end of the investigations by the investigators of the Mobile Squad of the Sondrio Police Headquarters which started from the complaint of a woman. The doctor ended up under house arrest.

The evidence was gathered, in particular, with hours of video camera recordings and some bedbugs hidden in the study where he received the patients. After the acquittal he returned to practice, currently at the Moriggia Pelascini hospital in Gravedona, in the Como area.
