"Italian industrial production is estimated to have fallen sharply, -1.3% in January, after -0.7% in December".
This was calculated by the Confindustria research center, underlining that "the contraction is due to expensive energy (electricity + 450% in January 2022 to January 2021) and to the increase in the prices of other commodities that compress the margins of companies and, in several cases, are making it no longer convenient to produce ".
In Sardinia precisely due to the high costs of energy, Portovesme srl has decided to interrupt the zinc production line from the end of 2021.
The Italian situation is also worsened by "the persistent bottlenecks along the global value chains. This dynamic - explain the economists of via dell'Astronomia - seriously jeopardizes the upward path in GDP, which began last year".
"Orders in volume increased by 0.3% in January, slowing down compared to the increase in December on the previous month (+ 0.5%)", says the industrialists' organization.
In recent months, the main economic indicators have suffered a setback: the confidence of manufacturing companies has weakened, with the decline in production expectations, while there are insufficient materials and a shortage of manpower, as well as unprecedented increases export costs and delivery times.
Italy's European partners are also recording negative performances, with German production falling by -0.1% in November and French production by -0.2% in December.
