Election day starts today. From 3pm to 11pm, and tomorrow from 7am to 11pm, the Sardinians are called to vote for the European elections: the Strasbourg Parliament needs to be renewed, where the island has not had its own deputy since 2014. In twenty-seven municipalities, instead, the appointment is double: there are also the administrative offices.
In Strasbourg, there will be 720 MEPs for the next five years, with an increase of fifteen compared to the legislature that is closing, the ninth (the new one will be the tenth, the first dates back to 1979). But nothing changes for Italy: there are still 76 deputies to be elected, of which eight come from the Islands, i.e. the Sardinian-Sicilian constituency which, as is known, benefits Palermo and not Cagliari due to the demographic gap of almost three million inhabitants.
In the penultimate elections of 2014, however, three seats were won by Sardinia with Salvatore Cicu (Forza Italia), Giulia Moi (M5S) and Renato Soru (Pd). So anything is possible.
