On Tuesday 23 November the process of the popular initiative law proposal to insert insularity into the Constitution will start in committee in the House.

As Giuseppe Brescia, chairman of the Montecitorio constitutional affairs commission and deputy of the M5s explains, "after the unanimous approval of the Senate, I asked and obtained from the groups the availability for a rapid path, without resorting to hearings and the presentation of amendments".

"We are facing a historical turning point - he underlines -, which started with two hundred thousand signatures collected with a transversal commitment. Seven million Italians know firsthand the disadvantages of living on an island. It is right to give them an answer - continues Brescia - consistent with the principles discussed in the Constituent Assembly, then canceled by the 2001 reform. We have the duty to go all the way and approve the first constitutional reform of an exclusively popular initiative in the history of our Republic ".
