The 3-3 draw between Cagliari and Genoa sparked much discussion regarding what happened on the pitch, but the Rossoblu's week was also marked by the entry—with a minority stake—of the American fund Praxis Capital Management. As specified in yesterday's press release , Tommaso Giulini remains president. "We've been talking for almost a year," the owner revealed. "This is a sign of seriousness, with negotiations that have dragged on for a long time without any agreement on investors. Now a new era begins for the club; I won't be alone and I will share the responsibilities with others."
Summing up his time at Cagliari, which began in 2014, Giulini explains: "Football has changed so much in recent years. Today, there are so many investment funds, less passion and more finance. For this reason, too, among the many investors who have come and gone, I chose a true Cagliari fan like Maurizio Fiori : he's been going to the stadium since he was a child, he's a man of this land who, during all his years abroad, dreamed of returning and having his say for his favorite team. For me, having a fan by my side is more important than money."
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions. "We expected it to be like this, very difficult against a coach I respect so much," Giulini commented. " We conceded two rather lame goals, if I may use that term . They were fading a bit, unfortunately Elia got injured, and we're disappointed: it's been a while since we've won at home, we were hoping to pull through. We're teams that need to take points everywhere, and it ended in a draw. I was hoping for the three points after yesterday's news, and I hope it's the next one."
Cagliari haven't won in two months, and today they saw their victory slip away in a mocking way. "We're here fighting for survival, the standings are in line with expectations because there's been a major setback after Belotti's injury," Giulini said of the first third of the season. "It's also natural to find ourselves in this standings now, which isn't alarming, but it should make us fight for every ball. We hope to reach the end of the first half of the season with a good margin above the red zone, and then plan for an even better second half . We're seeing glimpses of good play, and that makes me happy. Despite the three stupid goals, I'm satisfied with the performance, and I saw quality."
A touch on the stadium is inevitable. "Among the various interests the new investors have is seeing it built: having someone else at our side who shares this responsibility, on an investment of nearly €200 million, is one of the reasons that led me to choose Praxis and search for an investor in recent months. I think this is good news for everyone; the company is solid, and I hope it will now become even more so ," Giulini stated.
Giulini doesn't elaborate on the various investors who have joined Cagliari, including Escalada Sports Partners. "Fiori will take care of it. He has a strong investor base behind him, and I think it's right for him to speak about it, not me. This summer, when I went to the United States for the tournament with Pisacane, the new investors were there, and the decision to sign him was also theirs, not mine alone ." He prefers instead to praise Borrelli, who scored twice: "Sporting director Angelozzi asked me to have him as my first choice. He said he could play in Serie A and that he would be a huge help. I gladly obliged, and I'm happy that he's proving his worth today."
