"I don't understand how such news can get out." This was Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini 's response to those asking for his comment on the case of Daniel Maldini, who was arrested Saturday night after a crash in Milan and subsequently tested positive for alcohol.

"We're shocked and surprised. Certain newspapers are taking drugs," adds Giulini, from the Lega Serie A press room, explaining that he believes the news' significance is amplified by the fact that Daniel is the son of former Italy and AC Milan captain Paolo. "We believe the boy's good faith in telling us he drank a couple of cocktails. The tests performed are all negative."

"The emergency room report mentions traces of THC," he continues. "If Daniel had smoked a joint, and I don't think so. There's a huge difference between that and the ketamine they talked about. I wonder where it could have come from. It's a serious substance, not a soft drug. Whoever spread this information, be it the local police or the hospital, will have to take responsibility. I'll see the boy tomorrow; my parents have already met with him, but it's extremely serious, especially considering that Daniel has been pre-called up to the national team, to believe he could have taken such heavy substances."

"I'm sorry there's any intention of over-extending him. The truth will be known in a few days when the blood tests in the emergency room come back," he concludes.
