Nicolò Barella and Daniel Maldini are back in the national team's squad, but both will start on the bench for tonight's big match, France vs. Italy (8:45 PM at the Stade de France). This is the decision made by coach Roberto Mancini, who instead fields the two Esposito brothers (former Rossoblu player Sebastiano and Inter Milan player Francesco Pio) and Kean up front in the Azzurri's 4-3-3 formation. Alessandro Romano, meanwhile, has remained at Coverciano to manage the load given the four games in quick succession (the Azzurri have split their 32-man squad).
The Frattesi-Fagioli-Tonali trio will therefore have to try and stop France's dominance in midfield , with Italy arriving in Saint-Denis after a 2-0 defeat in their opening match against Belgium and a 4-1 victory last Monday in Turkey. Zinédine Zidane's Les Bleus, who is playing against the Azzurri for the first time since his famous headbutt on Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final, are top of their Nations League group thanks to a 1-0 win over both Turkey and Belgium.
