«It is illogical for the president of the broad camp to support a representative of the centre-right with the centre-right» .
Roberto Deriu, Democratic Party group leader in the Regional Council , doesn't mince his words when commenting on the rift between the Democrats and Alessandra Todde over the EGAS presidency . "Our party has not appreciated, nor can it appreciate," Deriu insists, following a fitful session in which the Regional Council's work was interrupted four times before finally adjourning due to a lack of a quorum caused by numerous absences from the majority. A day the opposition quickly dubbed the "Black Wednesday" of the legislature .
Fabio Albieri, elected under the Solinas administration, was reconfirmed yesterday as president of Egas with the vote of Todde and the centre-right mayors .
The elections are "illegitimate from a procedural standpoint and politically inappropriate," Deriu, whose position leaves no room for doubt, curtly stated. He continued: "It's very difficult to explain to voters why a progressive coalition places center-right representatives in positions of responsibility. It's a logic we don't understand, and indeed, we reject."
However, the Democratic Party group leader clarified, yesterday's absences from the Regional Council and the Health Committee were a coincidence. "There was no attempt to boycott the Council's work. Unfortunately, sometimes there's a coincidence of absences that makes things go badly."
And while tensions in the broader arena are rising, on the horizon there is a budget bill to approve and two crossroads of fundamental importance for the future of the coalition: the appointment of the directors of the local health authorities and, subsequently, of the new health councilor who will take Bartolazzi's place (Todde has an interim position and will presumably keep it at least until the appointments are made) .
The Five Star Movement is trying to calm the situation: "It would be hypocritical to think that within a strong alliance, conflicts can't arise. In all the best families, we discuss and debate. The important thing is to stand firm and move forward, and these are absolutely the conditions ," declares group leader Gianluca Mandas . Orizzonte Comune, with deputy group leader Salvatore Cau , is also easing tensions: "Situations like these are natural in any legislature, so I have great faith in the common sense of all my colleagues in the majority and believe this is a situation that can be overcome ."
