Weather alert in Sardinia and other regions. But the arrival of the rain «saves Italy from drought. In a hot and dry winter which so far between December and January has seen a temperature 1.7 degrees higher than the historical average for the period 1991-2020 accompanied by a worrying absence of snow and rain".

Coldiretti states this, recalling that in 2023 14% less water fell compared to 2022, according to Isac Cnr data.

«What is worrying – underlines Coldiretti – is in fact the drought which puts at risk the sowing of cereals, legumes, vegetables but also the fodder in the pastures which is in sharp decline. The lack of water also causes repercussions on costs for businesses which have also increased due to the rise in fodder prices, while in Puglia drought and sirocco winds with high humidity levels have also reduced the production of artichokes by 60% while in Sicily and Sardinia there are reports of difficulties in the development of fruit and vegetables with oranges or salads which are unable to grow adequately due to the lack of water" .

Furthermore, in the reservoirs of Sardinia in January there was 21% less water compared to the same period of the previous year while in those of Sicily in January 2024 the deficit was 13% compared to the previous year according to Coldiretti analyzes on data from the Regional Hydrographic Departments.
