"No one can remain indifferent to the cry of pain coming from the island's cattle breeding sector, in particular from the major production and processing companies (3A and Cooperativa Produttori di Arborea), which is part of an overall crisis that affects the entire breeding Italian. The dizzying increase in the costs of energy and all technical means (feed, fertilizers, etc.) has increased production costs in an unsustainable way ".

This was stated by Ignazio Cirronis, regional president of Copagri Sardegna, speaking of the crisis in the sector.

In particular, farmers complain of an increase in the daily cost of the feed ration for dairy cows of € 1.43 per head, which reduces the remuneration of milk to 34 cents per liter.

According to the trade association, theagreement reached in the ministerial office with the major milk buyers (GDO) for an increase in the producer price of 4 cents per liter has not yet produced the desired results.

"The fund cannot be left alone," Cirronis added.

"Italy is increasing the production of cow's milk but the market is unstable also due to the change in consumption - continued Pietro Tandeddu, regional director of Copagri -, the consumption of fresh milk tends to decrease, the consumer pays more attention to intolerances , the consumption of milk / non-milk of vegetable origin is growing. The other branch of cattle breeding does not laugh either, the meat one, where Coop Produttori, one of the very few in Sardinia, has dedicated itself to fattening calves to maintain the added value deriving from the production of stabling calves on the island. . It must be remembered that about 50 thousand island calves, at the age of 6 months, go to 'fatten' continental entrepreneurs ”.

Copagri finally launched an appeal to the Region to convene a specific supply chain table, in which professional organizations, credit institutions and the large-scale retail trade also participate, to investigate the situation and seek the most appropriate solutions.
