Two months at sea, one stroke after another for a distance of 700 kilometers in the name of Amelia , her daughter who died at 7 in 2018.

The tour of Sardinia of Corrado Sorrentino , 48 years old from Cagliari and swimming champion of the nineties, has ended. A symbolic enterprise but also useful to raise funds through the Amelia Sorrentino Odv association for the children of the pediatric oncohematology of the Microcitemico of Cagliari .

Sorrentino has returned to his city after his efforts. And the tears, as he reveals in an outburst on Facebook: “ Only I know how many times I cried while I was swimming thinking of Amelia and the children who suffer or who, like her, have passed through our lives to give us a purpose. Every time I told myself that I should have patience, that I should not give up and that that pain would last a long time, remembering the 5 absurd days in the hospital when I looked in the mirror and said to myself 'it's not over, don't give up, come on the best for her and help her out of this situation ', I didn't know how it would end but my heart was guiding me despite the desperation ”.

Sorrentino's undertaking, which in the nineties won three absolute national titles and a bronze at the European Juniores over 200 medley, began on July 1st : 59 stages of 12,000 meters each .

Escorted by a boat with medical personnel on board, he almost never skipped a stage until returning to the small port of Marina Piccola, greeted by an applause from the bathers that seemed to never end.

"I don't want to get lost in presumption, but after seeing Amelia go away - the final message on social media - I don't think there could be anything that could scare me, when I worried it was only for the daredevils on board the dinghy, they are heroes , men and women like few exist. For myself I have never been worried, as I have said so many times, if I were to die today each of you should go and buy the best bottle of champagne to celebrate because for me it would mean going to Amelia or at least stop suffering, in the meantime I live for. her and with her. Thank you all!".
