Alessandra Todde, vice-president and M5s deputy, is the first candidate for the presidency of the Sardinia Region for the elections to be held between February and March 2024. Today the official investiture arrived at the PD headquarters in via Emilia in Cagliari.

Fifty-four years old, from Nuoro, engineer and former CEO of Olidata, former deputy minister at the Mise in the Conte government and undersecretary in the Draghi government , she leads a center-left coalition that is losing some pieces.

“I am excited, I am happy and proud to represent this coalition,” she said upon her arrival in Via Emilia. " From tomorrow we will be out to talk to the Sardinians and convince each person, street by street, that we are the best alternative to the worst government Sardinia has ever had ."

But his candidacy is affected by the uncertainty of Renato Soru , a former governor who has always criticized the choice of the Pd and M5s not to rely on primaries to choose the candidate and to have carried forward a pact signed in Rome between the two main parties of the coalition at a national level.

With Soru there are the Progressives, More Europe and the independentists of Liberu : the three parties did not participate in Todde's investiture meeting today and are apparently preparing an assembly with Soru himself for Saturday 11th to present a new project. «We note today that the wide field of July has become a narrow field and risks becoming increasingly narrower , not seeing these problems risks jeopardizing any possibility of victory», states Francesco Agus (Progressives).

Even the UPC does not support Todde's candidacy, secretary Antonio Gaia : « We are with Graziano Milia . We had already mentioned his name on Monday but he was not taken into consideration."

Diplomacy now at work to mend the rift and avoid Soru's parallel candidacy which would benefit the centre-right.

«We must mend ties with everyone, we must be open, inclusive and in dialogue because the right is fighting with maximum compactness and maximum unity», explains Todde, announcing that he will meet Renato Soru . «I consider it a resource, I believe dialogue and the construction of a different relationship than the one that hasn't existed up to now are important. I needed legitimation, but now it's important to place yourself in a different context."

The secretary of the Sardinian Democratic Party himself Piero Comandini urges dialogue: " I believe that Soru is one of the first people that Todde must meet, because united we win and divided we lose ."
