Green light from the Eurochamber for the directive on "green houses" , which imposes the energy class "D" on all buildings in the Old Continent by 2033.

The plenary approval came with 343 votes in favour, 216 votes against and 78 abstentions. The text has been amended by the European Parliament in several parts. That of the Eurochamber is the first, decisive, green light for the directive on sustainable houses but the approval does not allow the entry into force of the Commission measure. The text will now be the subject of final negotiations between the EU Council and the European executive before returning to the plenary session. The entry into force of the law, therefore, is not yet obvious.

MINISTER PICHETTO FRATIN: «UNSATISFACTORY TEXT» – «The directive on green houses approved in the European Parliament is unsatisfactory for Italy. Also in the Trilogue, as we have done up to now, we will continue to fight in defense of the national interest», this is the first comment of the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin . «We do not question the environmental objectives of decarbonisation and redevelopment of the building stock, which remain fundamental. However, this text lacks a serious consideration of the Italian context, which is different from that of other European countries due to historical issues, geographical conformation, as well as a deeply rooted vision of the house as a 'safe haven' for Italian families", explained the member of the Meloni government.
